MEET THE ARTIST
Jessica Ann Leffley, ‘Bird Girl Creations’, is a proud Wiradjuri woman, artist and educator whose work is deeply grounded in her daily connections with Country. After graduating from Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, she went on to complete a Bachelor of Secondary Education at the University of Technology Sydney, establishing a dual career in creative practice and teaching.
With more than a decade of experience, Leffley has exhibited widely across Australia, including at Carriageworks for the South East Aboriginal Arts Market, NSW Parliament House, Mudgee Arts Precinct, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, the National Indigenous Art Fair and the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair. She has also held multiple solo exhibitions at Gang Gang Gallery in Lithgow and Gallery47 in Rylstone.
Her passion for storytelling has led to published works in education kits, research papers and syllabuses, alongside her self‑published children’s book I is for Ibis – An A to Z of Australian Birds. Leffley collaborates with government bodies, galleries, universities and schools to create murals and illustrations celebrating Australia’s native flora and fauna. A dedicated mentor, she has facilitated countless workshops across the Central West, empowering emerging artists and curating exhibitions that showcase their achievements.
